Discover the Sutures Series

Discover the world of Herbert Dubois and his series Sutures.

Herbert Dubois creates works where gesture and material collide. Layers of pigment strain the canvas until it ruptures, while crimson thread sutures the breaks, transforming scars into living elements of the composition. Each piece is a meditation on tension and repair, inviting viewers to feel the pulse of matter – its fragility, its resilience – and to interpret every seam and shadow in their own way.

In Sutures, matter refuses to remain matter.

Canvas breathes, pigment drifts toward fracture, thread draws a line of blood across silence. What appears as surface is already a pulse, a slow convulsion that neither invites nor rejects the hand that makes it.

The rupture is not a wound to be healed but a gate. A split through which memory seeps, carrying echoes older than language. The red seam does not reconcile; it holds the edges apart while keeping them from collapse, a fragile covenant between breakage and becoming.

Creation here is a duel of forces—gesture against resistance, body against the quiet will of fabric. Each movement registers like weather on stone, and the work answers back with its own weather. To stand before it is to feel that exchange in your own skin: the eye begins to touch, the breath begins to listen.

Sutures is less an object than an event that will not conclude.
It is the reminder that matter remembers, that scars are not the aftermath but the proof of life itself.
